Hi Kim!
I wanted to drop you a line to thank you for the wonderful week with spent with you
and Bergsvein. We have now been home for just over a week and have been
fully rejuvenated by our autumn holiday experience.
We were both looking forward to the variety and possibilities of visiting you
in the autumn and we were not disappointed.
For me, the other elements such as the forest walks, moose calling and the carriage
ride were equally enjoyable as the time spent training and feeding the dogs.
I was surprised and inspired by the beautiful surroundings.
I wonder whether you can appreciate the impact being so close to nature has on us,
the contrast to our daily lives is enormous.
Coupled with the laid back atmosphere, good conversation, food and wine
you really have the basis of a fantastic holiday.
We are so very grateful to you not just for making us feel welcome
but for spending time with us, teaching us new things
and for all the fun and laughter we had.
There are so many reasons why we will want to come back time and time again.
We spent a lovely week in Stockholm. The weather improved and we enjoyed several days of sunshine. We were able to take boat trips and visited the National Museum
as I am interested in the work of Carl Larsson. Gavin was happier when we went
to Skansen and saw the reindeer and wolves. However much we enjoy Stockholm,
it always feels a world apart the time spent with you.
I have been lucky enough to have visited Sweden many times and it is probably
one of my favourite places to be.
I can understand why so many of your guests feel the call of the wild and want
to up sticks and move to Munkflohogen and it is something that Gavin
and I have thought about before.
However, we're practical enough to understand that the reality of owning
a holiday home is quite different and that the major appeal is the atmosphere
that you create.
But I think this time, more than ever, we came home with a serious regret
that we could not stay in Sweden for longer, two weeks a year is just not enough. Since we've been home, Gavin has practised his moose call every day!
I wonder whether he thinks this will come in useful one day?? What ever the reason,
the story of that evening he learnt to speak like a moose has been recounted many
times, it is something we'll both remember for many years to come!
I hope this email finds you both well and that the autumn training is properly
underway. Once the season gets going, I know that you will have very little time
but it would be nice if you could keep in touch.
Ellen
Dear Kim & Bergsvein,
Apologies for not getting in touch sooner. My PC power supply decided to
give up shortly after we got back (while I was still copying photos
actually), and I've been a bit slack at getting it fixed.
I just wanted to send you a note to let you know we got home ok after our
days in Stockholm. We both had a brilliant week with you and were very sad
about leaving. It was great to see the area in the autumn and try our hand
at a few new things (moose calling, axe throwing, horse riding). In fact I
think Ellen preferred our autumn week because she didn't have to worry about
the cold so much. Anyway, thank you so much for making our week so wonderful
- you made us feel so welcome it was more like visiting old friends. By the
way, after visiting the smithy in Gåxsjö I've signed up for a course in
welding starting in January - it's a start.
Fortunately while we were in Stockholm we had some great weather, so we
could get out and about and see some of the sights we didn't get to see on
our previous visit. We went to the Royal Palace, the Vasa Museum and the
National Museum and explored Gamla Stan in much more detail. We were just
getting into the habit of stopping for coffee and cake every couple of hours
when it was time to come home. Once I've sorted the photos, I'll let you
know where you can see them so you can take a look.
By the way I forgot to ask you for some of your photos from our week with
you. Please could you send some to me - especially those of us dog training
with the quad bike, or those with Ellen and I in - it always seems when we
come home from holiday and go through the photos there are hardly any with
us in. Actually I have a strange request while I'm talking about photos -
I'm going to make some shelves to put up in our living room, and I was
admiring the wooden shelf brackets you have in your kitchen above the
dishwasher. Would you mind sending me a photo, as I'm after some ideas and
really liked the shape of those.
Anyway I hope you're both well and coping ok without us.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Gavin
